Urs Berger served as CEO of Mobiliar Insurance Company from 2003 to 2011. In 2011, he passed on overall operational responsibility and was elected Chairman of the Boards of Directors of the cooperative and the holding company. Urs Berger held this position until May 2023.
Before joining Mobiliar, he was with Zurich Insurance from 1981 to 1993, where he was particularly involved in industrial consulting. In 1993, he moved to Basler Versicherung and became CEO Switzerland and a member of the Group Executive Board in 1999. He studied economics at the University of St. Gallen, majoring in insurance and risk management. For six years (2011 to 2017), Urs Berger chaired the Swiss Insurance Association, sat on the board committee of Economiesuisse and was a member of the advisory board of the Federal Council "Zukunft Finanzplatz Schweiz" (Brunetti Commission).
Since 2011, Urs Berger has concentrated on serving on boards of directors and foundations. In addition to Mobiliar, these include Supervisory Board of Gothaer Versicherungsbank VVaG and Supervisory Board of Gothaer Finanzholding AG in Cologne. He chairs the Committee for Digitalization and Innovation. Since January 2014, Urs Berger has been a member of the Bank Council of Basler Kantonalbank, where he chairs the Remuneration and Nomination Committee. Since 2020, Urs Berger has been a member and since May 26, 2023 Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier AG.
Urs Berger's charitable duties include in particular the chairmanship of the Foundation Compensation Fund for Asbestos Victims, the chairmanship of the Swiss Entrepreneurs Foundation, the chairmanship of the Foundation "Basel is Sport". Urs Berger is also involved as a digital shaper and investor in start-ups such as Jarowa AG, UniqFEED AG and SensoPro AG. Urs Berger lives in Therwil, is married to Hildegard Berger and is the father of three children.
