Commitment to equal opportunities: Ringier achieves higher level of EDGE certification

Ringier has been awarded the 'EDGE Move' certification level, demonstrating continuous progress in its commitment to gender equality and equal opportunities. Improvements in the areas of policies, practices and salary structure have contributed significantly to achieving this higher level.

In 2022, Ringier achieved the ‘EDGE Assess’ certification level for the first time. Since then, efforts to create an inclusive corporate culture with equal opportunities have been further strengthened. With success, because Ringier has now reached the next higher certification level, ‘EDGE Move’.

Marc Walder, CEO of Ringier, emphasizes: “We are proud that the recertification confirms our continuous commitment to gender equality and the pursuit of an inclusive corporate culture. The higher certification level brings benefits for current and future Ringier employees: It proves that fair and sustainable practices are firmly embedded in our organization and contribute significantly to our success.”

EDGE (Equity, Diversity & Gender Equality) is a global certification standard for equal opportunities in companies, based on four pillars: statistical data, policies & practices, an employee survey and a pay gap analysis. Ringier has maintained its level of statistical data and employee survey, while significant improvements in policies & practices and the pay gap analysis have contributed significantly to the increase in certification levels.

Aniela Unguresan, founder of the EDGE Certified Foundation, recognizes Ringier’s commitment and explains: ”What Ringier has accomplished in recent years is truly impressive. As a media company, they reach millions of people daily – leveraging this reach to set a strong example for equality and inclusion, both nationally and internationally. From their ‘EqualVoice’ initiative, which makes women more visible in media, to concrete measures within their own organisation – Ringier is pioneering change in the industry. This commitment is also proven by their EDGE Move and renewed EDGEplus certification for gender and intersectional equity. Ringier demonstrates that real progress is achievable when taken seriously and pursued with dedication.”

In addition to the ‘EDGE Move’ certification, Ringier has once again received the ‘EDGEplus’ certification, which highlights the organization’s commitment to intersectional justice. ‘EDGEplus’ extends the scope of the EDGE certification by including additional dimensions of diversity, such as age and nationality.

EDGE is an EqualVoice United Partner, the network of EqualVoice that has been advancing gender equality in business since 2022.

About EDGE Certification®
EDGE Certification® is the leading global standard for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I), centred on a workplace gender and intersectional equity approach. EDGE Certification® is based on objective and measurable evidence of an organization’s current status of gender and intersectional equity in its workplace. Audited by an approved independent third-party certification body, it supports the integrity and credibility of data and information and gives an organization a powerful way to communicate its DE&I commitment and performance.

The EDGE Standards and the Certification System are built on four pillars that define success in gender and intersectional equity: Representation across the talent pipeline, pay equity, effectiveness of policies and practices, and inclusiveness of the culture. As an integral part of the assessment, statistics, policies and practices, and employee experience are evaluated against the EDGE Standards. Depending on the specific results of each organization, an approved action plan may need to be developed to close identified gaps in the organization.

EDGE Certification® meets organizations where they are in their DE&I journey. For the EDGE (gender-binary) assessment, three levels of certification are possible, EDGE Assess (recognizing commitment), EDGE Move (showcasing progress), and EDGE Lead (celebrating success). EDGEplus Certification (gender and intersectionality) is an add-on to EDGE (gender-binary) Certification, offering organizations the possibility to analyze data and information related to women and men as diversified groups, to deepen their understanding of, and to measure the intersectionality of gender and other aspects of diversity, such as non-binary gender identity and LGBTQ+, race/ethnicity, nationality, age, and working with a disability. EDGE Certification® is distinguished by its rigor and focus on impact, it remains valid for a period of two years.
