The jurist, philanthropist, publisher, and engaged citizen leaves behind a legacy that will extend far beyond her time. Throughout her life, Ellen Ringier followed her grandfather’s credo: “All life is about is to give other people a chance.” Ellen Ringier made this her life’s mission.
As the founder of the Elternsein Foundation and publisher of the parenting magazine Fritz+Fränzi, Ellen Ringier tirelessly advocated for families and education. Her vision of achieving great things through strength, commitment, and a clear goal became reality in numerous successful projects.
Ellen Ringier was also a strong force in culture, serving as the long-time president of the “Museum for Concrete and Constructive Art” and as a board member of the Zurich Schauspielhaus.
As the founder of “Rock gegen Hass” (Rock against hate) and a committed campaigner against antisemitism, Ellen Ringier fought against intolerance throughout her life.
Throughout her life, Ellen Ringier placed great value on her independence. This autonomy shaped not only her personal life but also her professional work. Whether in her marriage, her cultural and philanthropic work, or in her role as a publisher – she always maintained her own voice and freedom of decision. Her independence was not only a personal value but also the foundation of her success and her ability to inspire and support others. For all her commitment to others, she was also a loving mother and a passionate grandmother.
Ellen Ringier was a woman of modest tones when it came to achievement. But loud and clear when it came to standing up for her convictions.
Ellen Ringier never shied away from taking a stand. She leaves behind not only her work but also her life philosophy: “One should not merely pretend to do, one must actually do.” She reminds us that what we do for ourselves, we should also do for others.
With Ellen Ringier, we lose a visionary personality, a committed philanthropist, and a role model for generations. Her legacy will live on in the lives of all those she touched and inspired.
May her memory encourage us to contribute to a better society.
In these difficult hours, our thoughts are with Ellen Ringier’s family and loved ones. We extend our heartfelt condolences to them.
